"My name is Lora and I became a surrogate because I had heard that there were couples who were unable to conceive a child and yet desperately wanted to have one of their own. I knew this was something I could do with love and compassion. Most of the couples I've been fortunate enough to meet have loved each other very much. They've worked hard, made wonderful homes and have lived good lives. The only thing missing was a child to complete their family. I can't begin to imagine my life without my children. I would have been devastated if I had learned that I was unable to conceive. My children are my life, I have two ...ages 15 and 19. Without them my life would have felt incomplete. So my heart goes out to those who are unable to have children as easily as I did. After I was sure that I did not want any more children of my own, I decided to help someone with what I have. I also wanted to experience again the wonder and joy of bringing another life into the world. I got in touch with Surrogate Parenting Services and Cristie Montgomery, the president of the agency, came to my home to explain to me exactly what to expect. Over a cup of tea, we chatted about surrogacy and she answered all my questions. She is wonderful! A couple of days later we started our journey together. The process can be a little complicated, but Cristie was with me every step of the way. She was with me when I met the intended parents and she went with me to all of my doctor appointments, even if it was only to hold my hand and provide comfort. She took care of anything that came up for me and I felt so secure having her at the first meeting. I was very nervous and so were they. We all met for dinner I learned that they had lost their child 8 months into the pregnancy and that she would never be able to carry a child of her own. Not only were they crying, but Cristie and I were too. We sure looked like a sad bunch that felt such a strong bond between us. Happily, one year later I gave birth to triplets! The couple I grew to love now has a daughter and two sons. Apart form having my own children, this was the most rewarding experiences of my life! I can't put into words the strong bond that I have with Cristie. She is very dedicated to the intended parents and the surrogates. In fact, I am a surrogate again in Cristie's program right now and hope to be on my way to making another family soon! If you're thinking of becoming a surrogate, my advice to you is to be sure that you work with an agency. Pick one wisely. They are not all as terrific as Cristie's and I couldn't have done it without SPS!"
