The past few months have been quite a scary ride. With all the uncertainty in the world right now, you may be thinking about waiting several months (or perhaps even longer) to grow your family.

This concern is understandable. However, it’s important to keep in mind that the surrogacy process takes time, which is why you may want to consider getting started on this journey sooner rather than later.

At Surrogate Parenting Services, we take pride in the exceptional support we give to our intended parents and surrogates. The journey involves many steps, all of which are designed to protect the surrogate, intended parents, and future baby.

Each surrogacy experience is of course unique, but there is a relatively standard process that guides every journey. Be sure to keep this process in mind when you’re considering your ideal time frame.

The Typical Surrogacy Process at Surrogate Parenting Services

1. Reach Out to SPS

The first step is contacting SPS. You can use our online form or give us a call.

2. Determine If We’re the Right Fit for You

Next, you’ll have a meeting with Cristie Montgomery, our founder and president. (Note that all meetings will be virtual while we’re social distancing.)

Cristie will learn more about you and your expectations for the surrogacy journey and give you a precise breakdown of the entire process, as well as helpful recommendations for you along the way.

The meeting is also an opportunity for you to learn more about how we can support you on this journey and help you decide whether SPS is the right agency for you.

3. SPS Searches for the Perfect Surrogate Match

If you’re ready to move forward, you’ll sign the SPS Service Agreement and complete your profile, which will soon be given to a surrogate to learn more about you. Then, we’ll search for the ideal surrogate for you based on your completed profile and what we learned during your meeting.

The matching process is one of the things that truly sets us apart from other agencies—we’re passionate about creating excellent matches, and we put a great deal of effort and care into the process so that the intended parents and surrogate have the best journey possible.

4. Intended Parents Review the Surrogate’s Profile

Next, Cristie will contact you with a surrogate’s profile and tell you a bit about her; you’ll carefully review the profile and determine if she’s a good fit for you.

5. Fertility Doctor Reviews the Surrogate’s Medical Records

Once you’ve chosen a surrogate, SPS will send her medical records to your fertility doctor so that he/she can approve the surrogate from a medical standpoint and for your unique circumstances.

6. Intended Parents and Surrogate Have a Virtual Meeting

If your fertility doctor approves your surrogate, SPS will then send the intended parents’ profile to the surrogate. She and her partner (if applicable) will review the profile and see if it feels like a good fit. If so, we’ll schedule a virtual meeting. Cristie and your assigned Case Manager will attend and lead this meeting.

7. Meet and Prepare for Medical Screening

After the meeting, Cristie gives everyone a day or two to decide if they’d like to move forward with each other. If the intended parents and the surrogate decide to work together, they will be officially matched and the case manager will work closely with everyone to get ready for medical screening!

As you can see, the surrogacy process takes some time to unfold. So, if you are considering growing your family, you may want to start the journey now. As always, it’s important to consult with your doctors about the right time frame for you.
