Every surrogacy story is special, and yours is no exception. That’s why we’re so excited about our Storytellers series.  

This week we’re hearing from Daryl, who is a case manager here at SPS and is currently on her fourth surrogacy journey! 

Learn what inspired her to become a surrogate (and do multiple journeys), why she chose SPS, and why surrogacy has been so rewarding for her.  

Meet Daryl

My name is Daryl and I am currently on my fourth surrogacy! The first three surrogacies were all for the same family and I ended up having three little boys for them who are now 7,5, and 3. 

I’m currently helping a new couple have their first child, and it’s very exciting for me to help a couple go from just the two of them to being parents! 

Why Daryl decided to become a surrogate

I originally decided to become a surrogate because I had a co-worker who was struggling with her fertility while I was pregnant, and I could see her mix of excitement for me and her sadness for herself. 

I had a good pregnancy and loved the whole experience of being pregnant and growing a human life inside of me. However, I knew that my husband and I only wanted one child. I started researching surrogacy online and thought that it would be perfect for me! I could help give someone the gift of being a parent and also be able to help more financially with my household. 

The beginning of Daryl’s journey with SPS

SPS was the first and only agency I contacted for more information. The woman who answered the phone was very friendly and personable. She answered all of my questions, including questions that I didn’t even know that I had. 

Before long, the founder of SPS, Cristie Montgomery, was at my house going through every detail from start to finish and completely putting me and my husband at ease. When she left, I thought to myself, “This agency really knows what they are doing, and I feel comfortable with them.” I never contacted anyone else. 

“I’ve never had such a feeling of accomplishment” 

After my first journey I knew I would do this as many times as physically possible. It was just so rewarding seeing the parents’ excitement growing as the pregnancy progressed and then the birth was the absolute best! 

Aside from having my own child, I’ve never had such a feeling of accomplishment. It also made me feel incredibly valuable and almost superhuman to be able to help people in such a way. Seeing not only the parents holding their baby but also seeing the grandparents’ appreciation of me helping their children become parents was indescribable. This led me to do a second and third journey for this wonderful family. 

My body was ready to keep going even though my extended surrogacy family was done building their family. I am now with new IPs and so happy to be able to give them this gift! They are happy to be with an experienced surrogate and I am happy to help them have their first child! I feel like a pro at this point and am happy to use my body in such a way to help make this world a better place. 

What makes surrogacy so amazing

I believe the biggest benefit to surrogacy is the bonds you make and how close you become to people who were at first total strangers. This experience is not something most people go through and I feel it is so incredibly special! I would recommend surrogacy to women who have a tug on their hearts to help people in this special way and who enjoy being pregnant.
